COLOURFUL STRIPES Y

hey!
so i had drama [again] just now. and didnt go for bio remedial or sports day practice cause of drama. and i passed my bio test. nothing impressive but i PASSED! yay!.
okay so im kind of in a good mood thought im totally sleepy!.
haha.
i watched taboo yesterday night and i realise that its an inevitable fact that in some countries and societies individuals are discriminated because of unreasonble things. they are considered a social outcast. the first example they gave was based in an african village where the belief of witches is not just there but its strong. people are accused of being witches when anything "unnatural" happens. for example, when a man was sick and consequently died, the villages decided it was an act of an evil force -a witch. so they consulted the "ancestors" and concluded that this woman was guilty. she denied so they did a test to justify this. each side killed a chicken and the way the feet is positioned when it dies will determine the truth. the woman chicken "lost". the whole village, included her son and HERSELF believed she was a witch. she was to be banished to another small village where others accused witches join her. she also went through a purification process where another chicken was killed. if the chicken died on its back it meant that the "ansectors" had accepted her purification process. though she and everyone else had been "purified" and rid of any evil spirits, they cannot return to their village. they created their own village.

the next example was set in bangalore, india. here individuals were out casted from their societies because of an illness called leprosy. i dont really know what it is and how its caused and all but it really changes one's physical appearance. after being infected with this disease, they start to become deformed. the fingers become limb and i think fall off. so do their toes. and even their face can become disfigured.those infected also get conspicuous scars. the myth behind this disease is that its contagious and incurable. the truth is, thats all it is -a myth. they showed a life true story about a guy with leprosy. he was staying in a hut like house next to a tree in the middle of no where. a nun and a help-group went to help him. he was extremely skinny and couldnt walk properly because of i think the position he was in and the deformaties. they talked to him and he told them his daughter was getting married soon. she most probably wouldnt invite him and if she did he said he wouldnt want to go because it would be such a disgrace. after the help group brought him away, the villagers actually burnt his little hut. he is seen as bearing a curse and hence is out casted.

as i was watching i kept on thinking how irrational those people were. i pitied the "outcasts" and thought thankfully i live among people who dont believe in witches and dont discriminate that easily. however, after awhile i realised we "sophisticated" dudes arent much of a difference. we do not banish people and shoo them away from their homes but we sure do discriminate and over usually ridiculous reasons. for example, we shun that person because he's always quiet and stares weirdly at people. we all do that. we dont like a person because of superficial reasons. which is unfair and injust. doesnt it show that we are just like the tribal villagers still believing in witches and the uneducated bangalore villagers who believe only in myths.however, the african and indian villagers arent educated while we are. doesnt this make us worse?

okay. long article there. but the show really disturbed me in more ways then one. this was the first time i stayed tuned to the whole hour of taboo. other episodes i watched were too gory for me to handle.but something fun did happen while watching yesterday. my sister joined me half way while eating a cheesecake. i warned her that she doesnt want to eat while watching. her reply was "dont worry. im not like you." she was almost finished when something gory appeared. and yes, she was really grossed out. but she managed to luggingly finish her cheesecake. i was ofcourse only having one evil thought in mind "i told you so!"
